Sri Lanka will play two Tests matches against Pakistan at their home from July 16.

Pakistan's Test squad - ICC

 The Sri Lankan media claimed that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has selected their team for the home Test series against Pakistan. 

In a report published in The Sunday Times, Sri Lanka on Friday, Sri Lanka's squad has been sent to the country's sports minister for approval. 

In the Captaincy of Dimuth Karunaratne, Sri Lanka will play two Tests against Pakistan at home from July 16. 


The expected squad includes Karunaratne (captain),

  2. Angelo Mathews, 
  3. Dinesh Chandimal, 
  4. Dhananjaya de Silva, 
  5. Kamindu Mendis, 
  6. Nishan Madushka (wk),
  7.  Sadeera Samarawickrama, 
  8. Ramesh Mendis, 
  9. Prabath Jayasuriya, 
  10. Lakshitha Manasinghe, 
  11. Praveen Jayawickrama, 
  12. Asitha Fernando/Dilshan Madushka, 
  13. Vishwa Fernando, and Kasun Rajitha.


Meanwhile, Pakistan team has reached Hambantota for a two-day warm-up match ahead of the important series. It must be noted here that the Test series will be the start of the third ICC Test Championship cycle for both teams. 

Schedule of Pakistan's tour of Sri Lanka

July 11-12:; Two-day match in Hambantota.

July 16-20: First Test at Galle International Cricket Stadium

July 24-28: Second Test at Singhalese Sports Club, Colombo.

  • The team, which is captained by Babar Azam, boasts a wealth of experience, including former Pakistani captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and wicketkeepers Mohammad Rizwan.

  • Jamal will increase the firepower, and Shaheen will join Naseem Shah, Hassan Ali, and the pace department. Abrar Ahmed, Nauman Ali, Mohammad Nawaz, and Salman Agha have a plethora of options in the spin department as well.

  • In a press statement issued by the PCB, Shaheen was quoted as stating, "I am very excited to be returning to the Pakistan Test side after a year." "I terribly missed Test cricket, and being away from this format was difficult for me."

  • Shaheen last participated in a Test match in 2022, during Pakistan's tour of Sri Lanka. After then, he missed a significant amount of time due to a knee injury led to considerable time away from the game.

  • Huraira, who played for the Pakistan side in the 2020 U19 World Cup, has since had a successful run in domestic cricket. Last year, he became the youngest in Pakistan to score a triple century in first-class cricket.

  • Jamal turned heads on his T20I debut last year against England, making many wonder if he was next in line among Pakistan’s fast bowlers, while also creating a buzz with his hard-hitting down the order.

Morne Morkel has been named Pakistan’s bowling coach for the tour.
